Building a website for LB Tree & Land

Liam Brown runs LB Tree & Land in Washington, Illinois. Tree removal comes first. He also trims trees and clears land. This fall I built his first website.

Before this, the business had no website. Customers found Liam through Facebook, his yard signs, his truck and word of mouth. That works, but it misses anyone who looks on Google first.

Live the day after the go-ahead

Liam said go on October 20. The site was live on October 21 at lbtreeandland.com. That's his own web address, the name you type to reach a website.

The site has a free estimate form. When a customer sends it, the request goes straight to Liam's email. He also has two email addresses at his web address now, liam@ and estimates@, and both arrive in the inbox he already uses. A short privacy page tells customers what the form collects and who gets it.

Built for the people who call him

Many of Liam's customers are older, so the site is made to be easy to read. The text is large. A Bigger text button at the top of every page makes it larger still. The buttons are big enough to tap without hunting for them.

His phone number is on every page. On a phone, two buttons stay at the bottom of the screen: Call Liam and Text a photo. A photo of the tree helps him see the job before he comes out.

Easy to find nearby

The day the site went live, I set it up so Google and Bing can find it. The site also lists the towns Liam works in, from East Peoria and Germantown Hills out to about 40 miles around Washington. People search with their own town's name, so that list matters.

I also set up his Google Business Profile. That's the business listing Google shows on Maps and in search.

His customers' words, not mine

Liam's Facebook page already had good recommendations. The site shows a few of them word for word, with each customer's first name and last initial. The section says plainly that these are favorites, and it links to all of his reviews on Facebook.

What a trade business needs

A tree service doesn't need a big website. It needs a phone number that's easy to tap, a form that reaches the owner, words a customer can read without squinting, and a way for Google to find it. That's what I built for Liam.
