Mercedes E550 V8 Intake Tubes v1: Fit, Install, and Where Testing Stands

The Mercedes E550 V8 intake tubes are a pair of 3D-printed tubes that replace the factory intake tubes on both banks of the engine. I designed them and print them in Washington, Illinois. They use the stock connections and install with no permanent changes to the car. A pair is $79.

What they fit

  • Confirmed: 2010–2011 Mercedes E550 coupe with the M273 5.5L V8.

  • Other E550 models: text me at 309-501-1640 to confirm before you order.

  • Replaces: the factory intake tubes, left and right. They're sold as a pair.

Version 1, and where testing stands

This is version 1. Getting the fit right in the bay took nine revisions. Long-term testing is still running, so there's no durability rating yet.

Material

The tubes are printed in PA6-GF, a glass-fiber reinforced nylon from the same material family as OEM under-hood parts. A printed part is weaker than a molded one, mostly across the layers, so the walls are thicker to make up for it.

I call the fit OEM+. That means it fits like the factory part: stock mounting points and connections, no cutting, no permanent changes. It describes fit and look, not strength, and 3D-printed parts are not OEM-certified.

The install

Plan on about 30 minutes with hand tools. Nothing gets cut, and there are no permanent modifications. Re-check the clamps after the first few drives.

Before a pair ships

I remove the print artifacts and clean the bore so no debris reaches your engine. Then I check the surface finish and both connection ends by hand. Orders ship free within 3 business days or sooner from Washington, IL, anywhere in the 50 U.S. states.

Emissions notice

These tubes have not been emissions tested and have no California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Order number. They are not legal for sale or use in California on any pollution-controlled vehicle, and may not be legal in other states that follow CARB rules.
