Printing the T6 Intake Yourself: PA6-GF and What Your Printer Needs

You can get the T6 intake two ways: as a finished part, or as the print file (.STL + .3MF). This post is for people buying the file. It covers what it takes to print a part that lives next to a hot engine.

Why not PLA, PETG or ABS

An intake sits in engine-bay heat and takes vibration for every mile you drive. PLA softens at temperatures a summer engine bay reaches easily. PETG and ABS last longer, but they still move and creep under that heat. The file will slice in anything. It won't hold up in anything.

Why PA6-GF

PA6-GF is nylon 6 reinforced with glass fiber. It's the same polymer family used for OE airbox housings. It stays stiff when it's hot, stands up to oil and fuel vapor, and damps vibration instead of cracking from it. Every finished SilvaDes intake is printed in Bambu Lab PA6-GF. The file is also set up for PA12-CF, a carbon-fiber nylon.

What your printer needs

A hardened nozzle. Glass and carbon fiber are abrasive and wear through a brass nozzle fast. Use hardened steel or better.
Dry filament. Nylon pulls moisture out of the air. Wet nylon prints stringy, bubbly and weak. Dry it before the print and keep it in a dry box while it runs.
An enclosure. Nylon shrinks as it cools. An enclosed printer keeps a part this size from lifting off the bed or cracking between layers.
A build surface rated for nylon. Use the plate and adhesive your filament maker recommends, and follow their temperature profile.

If your printer can't check all four boxes, buy the finished part. It's cheaper than a failed spool.

Same geometry as the part I sell

The file is the exact model behind the finished intake. It's modeled to GD&T so the flange seats, the MAF mount and the clamp surfaces land at OEM-plus fitment. It fits any Volvo T6 that uses MAF sensor OE #LR012073. Check your sensor before you print.

A part printed from this file has not been emissions tested and has no California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Order number. It is not legal for sale or use in California on any pollution-controlled vehicle. Check your state's emissions rules before installing.
